Growing Community
There is a blaringly silent revolution occurring. Millions of people are gathering together to change the world. As th internet connects us, the world gets smaller, and new communities emerge to address important issues and shape reality in new ways.
Some of this is occurring in the domain of new-media. New channels of information are growing organically. No more is it solely top-down media run by Rupert Murdoch or any other media mogul and network.
Bottom-up media is flooding the web. Blog readers registered at over 32 million last year alone and had significant influence political debates and that's with less than 60% of internet users even knowing what a blog is. Video blogging is now beginning to flood the web and iPod has brought personal broadcasting to our own pockets.
Meanwhile, content providers are getting more creative and the available signals are increasing exponentially.
The Information Age is seeding the world with endless fractals of information. New patterns and new potentials are opening up with every passing day. The ability to navigate and indeed shape and collaborate within this info-laden reality is becoming ever more appealing and crucial.
I think its a good idea to set up some sort of community through which to aggregate and harness as much of this energy as possible. If LInux and Wikipedia have demonstrated anything its that global communities are capable of the truly miraculous.
